00:00 : I've always hated Clarke so much. I know at least one person that had to stop watching the show because of her. From the very first day we turned on the show, we were hoping she would die. Even now, I find myself hoping. 03:40 : Fuck Wells, fuck Wells, nobody cares 03:48 : Strangely enough, I didn't realize Jaha was the Grey's Anatomy guy until many years after my 3rd watch. I think the actor does a great job of becoming both characters, despite being such a visually iconic man. 07:20 : Our first introduction to Octavia Blake. From the first time she came on screen, I was pretty sure she would be as annoying as Clarke. I was certain Bellamy would be even worse. 08:40 : It brings a tear to my eye, when people present this kind of "first sight" of Earth. That's how I honestly feel, every time I'm in nature. It never gets old for me. 12:50 : I'm a class warfare guy AND I hate Wells. I won't complain about him getting knocked around. 12:55 : Finn has a serious hero complex and I think the show does a good job of presenting that. It treats him like a totally reasonable guy (as society often does), while he just acts like a total chode. 16:05 : I don't really understand how this news took so long to travel. 17:10 : It's pretty unclear how well these characters are meant to know each other. Everyone seemed to have heard of Octavia Blake. Clarke knew Finn's crime. The Arc isn't exactly massive. 18:10 : This is the first confirmation of the classism that has been alluded to. I think maybe they wanted to make the doctor seem strong-willed. However, it just reads as entitled and fearless, like she knows nothing is going to happen to her. 24:30 : Genuinely terrifying the first time I saw it. My expectation was that this would create a serious barrier for the hundred. 25:11 : The first signs that our boy is a true hero. There was so much doubt to overcome and he took actual time to consider it before diving in. In that moment, he forfeit his life in defense of another. 27:11 : This is the first instance of "My people". We'll come back to this later, but what Bellamy is saying here really resonates with me. The idea that his people are the people that got locked up, however dishonest in the moment, is perhaps a language even the oppressor can understand. 30:00 : Normally, I'm a huge fan of characters that are by the book to a fault. Javert, in Les Miserables, is my guy. However, something about Kane just rubbed me the wrong way. I was certain he would be a powergrabbing douchebag until eventually causing his own death. The doctor continues to assume she's untouchable. 33:55 : This is the moment I start to wonder just how prevalent the classism is. These people are so sure that appealing to Kane and shaming him for not showing mercy is somehow a serious option. Who is going around showing mercy? How much are they getting away with? 37:30 : She doesn't seem surprised. I wasn't either. 40:20 : I could not have been more surprised! Absolutely shook. Such a well-crafted bait.

The first episode covers a lot of ground. I think it does a good job of alluding to a lot of lore, without beating us over the head with it. It's actually a ton of characters to learn about in a short time. Coming away from this episode :
