01:43 : That is a crazy noggin. 04:14 : I really don't understand what makes Abby believe that there needs to be another explanation. I get the impending doom of the Human race. I get that these are the parents of the kids. I don't get why she's so reluctant to accept that some teens died, trying to survive on an insurvivable planet. 04:15 : Fuck Well, fuck Wells, nobody cares 06:26 : How do you choose who to root for? Can they both lose? 06:54 : It's unpopular with the moral crusaders, but this is acceptable to me. In some sense, everyone seems to be voting for this style of government and Bellamy has gone out of his way to even odds. IRL, I totally support the idea that we should defend the defenseless. As a fanboy, I totally want Wells to put up or stfu. 09:15 : "They say they'll forgive your crimes. I say you're not criminals!" is highly effective rhetoric for me. 09:24 : "The Grounders should worry about us!" is very much less so. 11:13 : We find out here that Chancellor is an elected position. We also learn that laws and government actions are voted on by a council, who are probably also elected. This changes things a little but not enough to wash away the air of classism that we've already seen. 12:19 : While I agree in principle that good leadership sometimes must break or change rules, we know that this government has a history of silencing people. It is unlikely that this Chancellor is doing this in a productive way. 12:45 : I do believe Kane when he says it wasn't him. He also seems almost too eager to start offing citizens. 14:00 : Again, how well do they know each other? It seems to either fluctuate or Clarke is a crazy stalker type. 14:18 : I hadn't actually considered the distance or the accuracy before Finn mentions it here. Unfortunately, these features will also fluctuate dramatically, lmao. 15:47 : Even on the 6th watch, it is CRAZY to me that they so casually lock up a teenage girl. I know that's the reality for lots of folks in the real world, but seeing it is stomach-churning. 17:15 : Raven Reyes. Love at first government skeptecism. 18:17 : Surely Adam reminds someone else of Carson Daly? I don't know the ages of the actors, but that always made this super cringecreep to me. 19:07 : Get got, nerd! 20:13 : A government that lies to their people can't have a fair and honest election. At this point, I'm completely checked out of the Ark's upper crust. They all gotta burn. 21:13 : Bellamy seems less and less willing to engage in proper violence. 21:43 : Fuck Wells, fuck wells, nobody cares 23:35 : DO YOU UNDERSTAND SHE WAS RAISED UNDER THE FLOOR YET? JUST SO YOU DON'T FORGET, SHE LIVED IN A FLOOR! ILLEGALLY! 25:08 : It was at this moment that I realized the Finn x Clarke story was definitely greenlit. I hate them both! 25:42 : Holy shit! What kind of thing is that to say to a person, much less a girl you're trying to con into bed? 29:30 : In a world where having a second kid is illegal, I do wonder what sex ed on the Ark looked like. 30:46 : In Metal Gear Solid, I was introduced to the concept of a sniper choosing to wound, instead of kill. The idea is that the rest of the group will make themselves easy targets, trying to save the dying person. They're as good as dead, because you can just shoot them again. That and this moment have informed so many of my TTRPG designs. 30:26 : It's a legitimately difficult moral quandry. We face similar but more complex equivalencies every day. I'm glad the show took time to talk about it. 34:34 : I do find myself on the same side as Kane, here. I just don't think he can realistically defend why he's not one of the 200. 36:24 : The smugness. She just can't accept that maybe other people suffer while she does whatever she wants. 36:54 : This goes back to the timeline thing. How long have they been up here? Is 3 generations 100 years? 52 years ago, how young was the youngest? 37:46 : Oooo, drama~ 38:30 : According to Sun Tzu, feeding your folks is pretty critical. I find it a bit unrealistic that anybody was willing to follow Bellamy BEFORE he brought in food. 40:43 : Skettios~ 41:45 : I am HYPED to see how that shakes out.
This episode didn't do much to push things forward. It also taught us some unfortunate lessons about the structure of the show. Jasper is not dead. I like Jasper and I'm glad he's not dead. However, no main character has actually suffered a consequence at this point. Finn was able to openly defy Bellamy. Clarke got to eat, while being above everyone else. Abby continues to just do whatever she wants, assuming nothing bad will ever happen to her. The Cool Kids Club is shaping up, quickly.
I am excited to find out more about the tree guy. I am in love with Raven Reyes. I've lost interest entirely in Finn x Clarke. Octavia is growing on me, possibly? I at least believe she has the capacity to become interesting.
